Tadpole Farm CE Primary Academy, the new primary school in North Swindon has been awarded £500 from LiteratureWorks to develop a literacy and drama project with Sixth Sense Theatre Company.
Sixth Sense Theatre, Swindon's only professional theatre company, is working with 36 pupils aged 4-5years by delivering weekly drama sessions that use a variety of stories that the young people bring from home. The pupils will also have two workshops with a professional playwright as well as attending a special visit to North Swindon library. The project will culminate with a summer production and the presentation of national Arts Awards that the pupils are also earning through their activity.
Aaron Parsons, Workshop Leader from Sixth Sense Theatre said, "Tadpole is such a special school, full of energy and hope. The pupils I have met show a great talent for telling stories and we've already seen a growth in confidence in many of them."
Jane Leo, Headteacher at Tadpole Farm Primary said, "Being a new school, we have a real chance to make a difference in our community by bringing families together for the first time. Improving literacy through play is part of our curriculum every day, and to see the young people doing it in such a fun, engaging way makes it something to celebration for all of us."
Project dates in school: 21 April - 7 July, 1pm - 2pm with a North Swindon Library performance on 9 July.
