Twilight Robbery: A New Musical Comedy by Joseph McNeice (Book and Lyrics) and Matthew Spalding (Music) premieres at the Barn Theatre in Oxted from 13th - 15th September. Running Time c.2hrs (inc interval). Tickets from £12-£15 available here.
Written in a traditional musical theatre style, with a scintillating score by rising stars Spalding & McNeice, Twilight Robbery is a hilarious and heartwarming new musical that follows a valiant group of pensioners who trade ageing for adventure when they are forced out of their humdrum retirement home by property developers. Not content with sitting by, Joyce, Patty and Frank hatch a daring plan to carry out a diamond heist so that they can pay off the developers and save the place they call home.
The show confronts a number of modern British social issues, including the loneliness epidemic faced by many of the UK's elderly, and asks how we can better support and care for the ageing members of our communities.
The cast features a wealth of young talent, including Em Barrett (2018 Welsh Young Musical Theatre Singer of the Year), Josh Benson (Original London Cast of The Girls, West End) and Martha Pothen (Privates on Parade, Union Theatre).
The show's protagonist, Joyce, is played by York-based actor Maggie Smales (The Stepmother, York Theatre Royal), who is joined by Loretta Lynch as Patty and Andrew Caley as Frank. Additional cast members include Joshua Gorroño Chapman, Emily Chattle, Dominic Doyle, Finn East, Anna Hale, Alfie Lanham-Brown, Christine McNeice, Chris Muscio, Gill Oakes, Flo Poskitt, Ross Telfer and Juliet Waters.
The creative team say that they are "thrilled to be premiering a brand new British musical, based of an entirely original concept, with an esteemed cast and full orchestra."
The Barn Theatre can be easily reached in just over 30 minutes from central London via direct trains to Oxted from Victoria Station. More information about getting to the theatre can be found here.
