Sell a Door Theatre Company produces THE PHILANDERED by Bernard Shaw. This rarely performed gem was last seen in London nearly twenty years ago. This fresh, raw and dynamic production revives one of Bernard Shaw's best comedies.

Sell a Door Theatre Company is the up and coming fringe and regional producer. In just three years of the company setting up it has produced in excess of twenty plays, have scooped up numerous awards and has received critical acclaim for its work.

This summer the company are producing seven plays at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, making it one of the most prominent companies at the festival. With two national tours in the pipeline, Sell a Door are making huge strives into the theatre scene with their high quality, engaging and compelling narratives.

THE PHILANDERER...the low down...
Modern, enlightened, man-about-town Leonard Charteris would love to marry exotic forward-thinking Grace Tranfield.

However, his girlfriend, the dramatic Julia Craven, has a number of issues with this. Chiefly, she's convinced she loves him and is determined to keep him at all cost.
Set in the physical and intellectually-trendy "Ibsen Club," Charteris employs all his charm and wit not only to get round Grace's father, but also to charm Julia's eccentric family and the oddly determined Dr. Paramore as well.

WHAT THE DIRECTOR THINKS...
"What is often thought of as advanced is in reality either ‘retro' or centuries old. Similarly, what people currently view as mature or sophisticated is in fact nothing more than immaturity in fancy dress. In the Philanderer, Shaw's left no windy prologue; he's content to let his words and wit stand as writ. Therein lies the fun: a neat depiction of adult children kicking-about in their ideological sandbox; sometimes outrageous funny, sometimes poignantly humorous, with loads of vulnerability, and always engaging." BArt Williams - Director.
