As of today, Agatha Christie's The Mousetrap, the world's longest running stage production, has become the most successful ever week-long play to have been performed at Southampton's Mayflower Theatre. To date, 17,400 theatregoers are booked in to see the production with this figure expected to rise to over 17,800 by the end of the run. This record was previously held by a production of Rebecca starring Nigel Havers back in 2005 with 17,150 attendees. Two extra matinees were added this week to keep up with demand for tickets.
Michael Ockwell, Mayflower Chief Executive, said, "It is a delight to have this prestigious 60th Anniversary production at The Mayflower, and a real thrill to see this play reach such a large audience here in the south. The play is dear to my heart having played the role of Sergeant Trotter for over 80 performances in 1995, and my wife played Miss Casewell in the West End for a year as part of the 47th cast. Don't forget when you do see the show to keep the secret as our 'partner in crime'!"
The play continues until Saturday 10 November.
The cast include: Steven France (EastEnders, The Bill) as Christopher Wren, Thomas Howes (Downton Abbey, The History Boys (National Theatre UK Tour)) as Sgt Trotter, Karl Howman (Brush Strokes) as Mr Paravicini, Bruno Langley (Coronation Street, Doctor Who) as Giles Ralston, Graham Seed (Yes, Prime Minister UK Tour, BBC Radio 4's The Archers) as Major Metcalf, Jemma Walker (Family Affairs, EastEnders) as Mollie Ralston, Jan Waters (reprising her west end role as Mrs Boyle) and Clare Wilkie (Eastenders) as Miss Casewell.
Mousetrap Productions has licensed 60 productions of The Mousetrap world-wide to mark the 60th year. During this period the world's longest running show will be seen in every continent, with professional productions scheduled for Australia, China, Korea, Turkey, South Africa, Russia, Czech Republic, Hungary, France, Germany, Holland, Italy, Poland, Spain, Scandinavia, Venezuela, and across the United States and Canada.
The Mousetrap continues at St. Martin's Theatre, London.
