Butches, masculine women and gender rebels share their powerful and human collection of secret stories celebrating vulnerability and desire.

The Butch Monologues brings together a collaboration between hotpencil press, an independent publishing house co-founded by the writer, Laura Bridgeman; Vital Xposure, a dynamic touring theatre company under the creative leadership of disabled artist, Julie McNamara; and The Drakes, a group of butches, transmen and gender rebels who joined together in the spirit of masculine solidarity.

Laura Bridgeman writes for the theatre and BBC Radio 4. Previous work includes: The (Trans) Mangina Monologues (directed by Lois Weaver), Caterpillars and Dogfood Diary co-written with Charles Lambert (BBC Radio 4), and How Was The Party? about her mother's experience of Alzheimer's.

Julie McNamara's work is an appeal for social justice, shedding light on unheard voices from the margins of our communities. Her recent work: Let Me Stay - an award winning production created with the playwright's mother. A joyous celebration of living life to the full with Alzheimer's. Julie Mc's other productions include: The Knitting Circle and Hold The Hearse.

The Drakes are a private members' group formed in 2012. They came together to promote female masculinity and butch pride. They run their own parties and strut their stuff on the stage, and were recently featured on Gluck - Who Did She Think He Was? (BBC 4).

The book launch for The Butch Monologues will be 9pm, 9th November at Gerry's Stratford.
