Strawberry Blonde Curls Theatre Company in partnership with City of Sanctuary presents 'TANJA.' Emily Ntshangase-Wood will play the lead role, a former Yarl's Wood detainee, whose inspiring story and similar stories of those who have been detained are at the heart of it.
After a sharing at Sanctuary in Parliament in December the play has been developed at The Lowry, Theatre Deli, Slung Low's Hub, The Garage and ARC, Stockton. After securing funding from Arts Council England, it will tour across the country with engagement streams with City of Sanctuary at every town/city.
Locked up. Shipped around. Sold as sex. In the black of night 'Tanja' fled to safety on the shores of England. Another asylum seeker now held at Yarl's Wood Immigration Removal Centre; Britain's best kept secret. Refuge lies just beyond the barbed wire fence, but at what cost? With immigration issues reaching fever pitch, this is the story of one woman's bravery in the midst of prejudice and abuse. An impassioned call to arms, a play and a campaign.
'TANJA' is a new piece from Strawberry Blonde Curls that blends drama, spoken word, physicality, puppetry, sign language and verbatim theatre.
