The St. James Theatre has announced its new initiative designed to support emerging theatre talent and to start a creative conversation with its audiences, St. James RE:act.

Following an application process, four theatre makers will be selected to write a performance piece in response to the current main house production, which will then be rehearsed and performed in the St. James Studio.

Theatre makers will have just 48 hours to write a short piece inspired by the production. They will be paired with emerging directors and actors who have also applied to partake in St. James RE:act. The showcase of new work will be followed by a conversation with an established theatre creative and there will be the opportunity for both emerging and established artists to meet post-show to further discuss ideas.

St. James RE:act will launch on Saturday 16 May at 8pm alongside the highly anticipated production McQueen by James Philips. The evening will be curated Alastair Knights who directed the sell-out 2014 main house production, Putting it Together, and Matthew Keeler and Lauren McGee for St. James Theatre.

James Albrecht, Creative Director of St. James Theatre commented:

"The St. James has always been committed to bringing our audiences the best theatre: be it musicals, plays, cabaret, comedy or beyond. We recognise how important it is to nurture the next generation of theatre makers which is why I am so excited to announce this fantastic scheme. I am hoping that the diverse programme we offer in the main house will prove the ideal stimulus and inspiration for new artists to come together and create. Who knows what might come of it".
