Squint will premiere the new play BROKEN NEWS at the New Wimbledon Studio on the 4, 5, 6 & 7th of April at 7.45pm.
Squint use their trademark cocktail of original drama, live music and panoramic ensemble-driven storytelling to present Broken News, Squint’s first full-length piece of new writing, which opens at the New Wimbledon Studio on 4 April 2012 as part of the Studio’s Fresh Ideas Season. Director Andrew Whyment and a team of emerging writers present a story that exposes the humanity of both those who make the news and those who are the news.
About the show: "We live in a 140-character, twenty-four hour world where the stories we consume are fast, packaged and bite sized; but some stories aren’t meant to be told with headlines, theme tunes and logos. Broken News plunges into the heart of a modern day newsroom where an ambitious world is about to collide with the private lives of those at the heart of a ‘good news story’. In response to the ever-growing question mark over the morality of journalistic method, Squint’s epic new production studies how the media’s determination for the ‘perfect news story’ unearths those whose tales should remain below ground."
Fresh Ideas is New Wimbledon Studio’s new work programme offering a week of rehearsal and development time in the Studio along with four public performances. Audiences are encouraged to provide feedback directly to the theatre companies to help shape the production’s future life. Fresh Ideas began as a 3-month season in 2009 and across the past three years New Wimbledon Studio has supported more than 30 productions including over 20 world premieres.
The show is Written by Adam Foster, Clare Shaw & Andrew Whyment; Director Andrew Whyment; Designer Helen Coyston; Lighting Designer Aaron J. Dootson; Sound Designer J. Jones; Video Designer Chris Jackson; Musical Director Rhys Lewis.
