Award-winning play "The Last Lunch" returns in Spring 2014 via Something Underground Theatre Company, with a tour across the South, nine nights at the Brighton Fringe, and a brand new cast, including TV actors from Brookside, Casualty and Minder.
We've all heard the age-old adage, "You are what you eat", but Something Underground Theatre Company's play takes that notion to new heights. And given the recent horsemeat scandals, the revival of this favourite of the 2012 Fringe is likely to be received with renewed interest.
Playwright & director Jonathan Brown says, "It's about traditional British butcher Albert, who's enraged at having opinionated vegan sons, hippies and pregnant grand-daughters show up for Sunday lunch, who's trying hard to keep his trusty Nokia out of the tofu casserole, and who's trying not to buy yet another consignment of "damaged stock" from beef-farming friend Peter. As guest upon guest arrive, the house fills with demons, gods, and archetypes that start to play havoc with the whole family. It's funny, moving, poignant, and more than a little disturbing."
Something Underground Theatre Company have been racking up the Brighton Fringe Awards lately, including Best New Play 2012, Best Male Performer 2013, Best Female Performer nomination 2013 and Best New Play shortlist 2013.
And they're not stopping there. The Last Lunch is just one of three women-focussed plays from Something Underground in this year's Fringe. One-woman shows "Betsy: Wisdom of a Brighton Whore", (which attracted 5 and 4 Stars reviews, Best Female performer nomination and sell outs in Fringe 2013.) and their new play "Smoking Ban", both also play at the Friends' Meeting House.
Each show stands alone, so you can see each separately, AND you can also get a great discount ticket to see all three! AND on the opening night (15th May), tickets are only £5 / £4 (concs)
