The Traverse Theatre in association with Aurora Nova have announced that Siobhan Redmond, Phill Jupitus and Ewen Bremner will star on the Traverse 1 stage next week in White Rabbit, Red Rabbit by Iranian playwright Nassim Soleimanpour.
On an otherwise bare stage, there is a ladder, a table and a chair. On the table, there are two glasses of water, a spoon, and an envelope containing the script. The actor walks on stage, picks up the envelope and reads the script for the first time.
Starring in the Thursday evening performance is acclaimed Scottish actress Siobhan Redmond, celebrated for her work on both stage and screen from Perfect Days and Shadowing the Conqueror at the Traverse to television roles including Taggart, EastEnders and New Tricks. Most recognised as team captain on Never Mind The Buzzcocks and regular guest appearances on QI, the familiar face of comedian and radio host, Phill Jupitus will take to the stage on Friday evening. The third and final performance of White Rabbit, Red Rabbit will star actor Ewen Bremner, best known for films Trainspotting, Black Hawk Down, Exodus and Match Point.
Without a director or any rehearsals, White Rabbit Red Rabbit is a powerful and audacious theatrical experiment that has been celebrated worldwide as one of the most astonishing evenings in theatre. Through unique audience participation, both audience and actor create a heart-warming, original piece that defies national boundaries and censorship.
Visionary playwright, Soleimanpour was denied a passport in his native Iran because of his status as a conscientious objector. Unable to travel, he decided to write a play which could travel the world in his place. Since its joint premiere in 2011 in Edinburgh and Toronto's Summerworks Festival, White Rabbit Red Rabbit has been translated into 15 different languages and been performed over 200 times by some of the biggest names in theatre and film including actors Stephen Rea, Sinead Cusack, Guy Masterson and film maker Ken Loach.
