Daniel Evans today announces the world première of a new stage play version of The Full Monty which Oscar-winning writer Simon Beaufoy, who wrote the screenplay, has adapted for the stage using songs from the film. This announcement realises a long held ambition for Evans who on his appointment as Artistic Director wanted to bring The Full Monty home to Sheffield. The production will be presented at the Lyceum Theatre in Sheffield from Friday 1 – Saturday 23 February 2013.
Artistic Director Daniel Evans said today, "I am thrilled that we will be staging a brand new production of Simon Beaufoy's The Full Monty in February next year. Since making my home in Sheffield, I have been eager to bring this funny and heartwarming story back to the city and I am sure this is a theatrical event that will make the whole of Yorkshire proud."
Simon Beaufoy said, "Without Sheffield, there would be no Full Monty. It's been a long road- via Hollywood- but finally the characters are coming back home to the place it all started. Or to put it another way, we are all genuinely chuffed to bits."
This is Yorkshire born Simon Beaufoy's first work for the theatre. As a screenwriter his work includes Salmon Fishing in the Yemen, 127 Hours, Slumdog Millionaire (Academy Award, Golden Globe and BAFTA for Best Adapted Screenplay), Burn Up, Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day, Yasmin, Blow Dry, Among Giants and Yellow.
The Full Monty is based on the Fox Searchlight Pictures Motion Picture. The Full Monty will take to the Lyceum stage from Friday 1 February to Saturday 23 February 2013. Tickets will go on sale at 10.00am on Saturday 26 May 2012 priced from £9.00 – £30.00 and can be purchased by calling the Box Office on 0114 249 6000 or by visiting sheffieldtheatres.co.uk.
