The season begins with a real treat for dance fans as Moscow City Ballet bring their breathtaking production of Swan Lake to the stage from Tuesday 6 - Saturday 10 January and Northern Ballet return to the Lyceum with their adaptation of Emily Brontë's romantic masterpiece Wuthering Heights (Wed 18 - Sat 21 March) with music by Claude-Michel Schönberg (LES MISERABLES).
Willy Russell's legendary Blood Brothers, the emotionally charged musical that tells the story of twins separated at birth, opens from Tuesday 13 - Saturday 24 January and the hills will be alive with The Sound of Music from Monday 2 - Saturday 14 February, when the Von Trapp family visit Sheffield in a magical new production of the much-loved musical. The triple Olivier award-winning Top Hat (Tue 24 February - Sat 7 March) sashays into town capturing the glamour of Hollywood's golden era with sensational dance numbers and some of Irving Berlin's greatest hits, includingCheek to Cheek and Let's Face The Music and Dance and Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber's sensational Jesus Christ Superstar powers onto the Lyceum stage from Monday 20 April - Saturday 2 May. Later in the year, Alexandra Burke will star in the smash-hit musical The Bodyguard (Tue 27 Oct - Sat 7 Nov) as the sensational production visits Sheffield on its national tour.
Drama fans can look forward to a host of critically acclaimed plays direct from the West End, beginning with Harper Lee's Pulitzer Prize-winning masterpiece To Kill A Mockingbird (Tue 27 - Sat 31 January). This moving drama tells the story of courageous lawyer Atticus Finch and his feisty daughter Scout as they fight racial injustice in the Deep South. Jason Donovan stars in The King's Speech (Mon 13 - Sat 18 April) as maverick speech therapist Lionel Logue, unlikely friend to newly crowned King George VI, and then the boys are back in town from Tuesday 5 - Saturday 23 May as Gary Lucy (Footballer's Wives, The Bill) leads an all new cast to tell the story of out of work steelworker Gaz and his friends in the heartwarming and hilarious, The Full Monty.
The colourful world of the circus comes to the Lyceum from Tuesday 7 - Saturday 11 April in Barnum. Starring Brian Conley as P.T Barnum - The Greatest Showman on Earth and Linzi Hateley (Mary Poppins), this exhilarating musical features breathtaking circus skills, Big Top delights and show-stopping tunes including Come Follow The Band.
In the Studio, Edinburgh Fringe Festival hit Grounded (Wed 21 -Sat 24 January) looks at the stark reality of combat through the eyes of a pregnant F16 fighter, whilst Fleabag (Tue 24 - Wed 25 February) is a darkly funny comedy about one female's life. Also in the Studio, Penelope RETOLD(Mon 30 March) is an irreverent and fiercely playful tale of love and loneliness that mixes classic myth The Odyssey with contemporary rage.
Music lovers will not be disappointed as English Touring Opera return to perform Puccini's heart-breaking La bohème (Mon 30 March) andDonizetti's highly acclaimed yet rarely performed The Siege of Calais (Tue 31 March), whilst recent BBC Folk Award-winning super-group, The Full English, featuring local musicians Martin Simpson and Fay Heild and multi-instrumentalist Seth Lakeman take to the Lyceum stage on Sunday 3 May.
The sound of laughter will ring out from audiences in spring. The Olivier award-winning Jeeves and Wooster in Perfect Nonsense combines a cast of P.G. Wodehouse's finest characters with delightful theatrical absurdity from Monday 16 - Saturday 21 February. John Shuttleworth returns to the Crucible in A Wee Ken To Remember (Tue 24 February), comedy activist Mark Thomas brings his comedy of betrayal, Cuckooed, on Thursday 26 February and cult optimist and Radio 4 favourite, Josie Long, performs her Edinburgh show Cara Josephine (Thu 26 February) on the Studio stage. Fascinating Aïda also return to remind everyone how to grow old disgracefully in Charm Offensive (Thu 26 - Fri 27 March).
Dinosaur Zoo stomps onto the Lyceum stage from Saturday 28 February - Sunday 1 March, followed by more friendly animal antics from The Tiger Who Came To Tea (Tue 24 - Wed 25 March), a delightful adaptation of Judith Kerr's iconic children's book. The Chuckle Brothers bring their own brand of family fun in The Chuckles From Oz on Saturday 28 March. Don't forget your fancy dress for Sing-a-long-a Frozen (Sat 4 April) and then everyone's favourite ogre lights up the stage in Shrek The Musical (Wed 27 May - Sun 7 June), alongside his trusty sidekick Donkey.
National Theatre Connections returns from Wednesday 25 - Saturday 28 March, with a host of exciting new work for young audiences, performed by eight local young companies and the Lyceum welcomes more local companies as Splinters Theatre Group perform Rent (Tue 6 - Sat 10 January) and Croft House Theatre Company stage Sister Act (Tue 10 - Saturday 14 March).
Ahead of the World Snooker Championships, join Snooker Legends Neal Foulds and Doug Mountjoy as they return to the spiritual home of the game on Thursday 9 April and looking further ahead into the year, tickets will also be onsale for Octonauts and the Deep Sea Volcano Adventure (Wed 10 - Thu 11 June), Horrible Histories Groovy Greeks and Incredible Invaders (Tue 14 - Sat 18 July), Stewart Lee (Fri 12 - Sat 13 June),Matthew Bourne's sultry dance production The Car Man (Tue 23 - Sat 27 June), Oklahoma!
