Sheffield Theatres is looking for local writers to submit new play scripts to be chosen by the Theatres' artistic team and performed in the Studio Theatre on Friday 13 December.
Following the success of the first three Crucible Writers' Nights, this year's Writers Night has the theme of Oliver, Twisted, with the artistic team looking for short, original new scripts inspired by this season's Christmas production of Lionel Bart's Oliver!, directed by Daniel Evans and coming to the Crucible stage from Friday 29 November - Saturday 25 January.
This opportunity is open to Sheffield-based writers of all experience levels, seeking to have their work performed on the Crucible stage for the first time. Writers are encouraged to interpret the theme of Oliver, Twisted with as much creativity and imagination as possible. Entrants are advised to be bold and ambitious with their pieces, without needing to be too literal.
Writers must be based in South Yorkshire or within 30 miles of the Crucible, and are asked to submit work that will be ten minutes in length, to be performed with no more than three actors and with minimal technical requirements. Writers are also advised that Sheffield Theatres is unable to cast actors under 18 in the final performances.
The Theatre is asking writers to email their work, including a short covering note detailing writing experience and contact details to: literary@sheffieldtheatres.co.uk. Deadline for submissions is Monday 18 November. This is an unpaid opportunity and does not imply any subsequent development or commission by Sheffield Theatres.
Lionel Bart's Oliver! comes to the Crucible stage from Friday 29 November - Saturday 25 January. Tickets are on sale now priced from £17.00- £32.00* and can be purchased in person at Sheffield Theatres' Box Office, by calling 0114 249 6000 or online at sheffieldtheatres.co.uk.
