Inspired by the original 1936 film of the same name, this raucous musical satire takes a tongue-in-cheek look at the hysteria caused when clean-cut kids fall prey to marijuana, leading them on a hysterical downward spiral filled with evil jazz music, sex and violence.
Sedos, the City of London's premier amateur theatre company, presents Reefer Madness at the Bridewell Theatre from 17-21 May.
Director Matt Bentley says: "This show isn't actually about marijuana. Or at least it's not strictly about marijuana. It uses pot as a subject, but it's really about paranoia, misinformation and the American way.
"I love this show because it's both cuttingly satirical and incredibly fun. It has a huge range of music styles, larger than life characters, and its tongue firmly in its cheek.
"This is a musical for people who think they don't like musicals. It lures you in with its comedy and subject matter, and then hits you with a big flashy dance number when you least expect it.
"I see this show as the illicit love child of Grease and The Rocky Horror Show, with a splash of Cheech and Chong thrown in for good measure."
