Sedos, the City of London's premiere amateur theatre company, presents Melissa Reeves' In Cahoots as part of its July Summer Festival.

Tonight is the annual parents' and friends' evening of the First Cardwell Street Brownies. But when the new District Commissioner arrives to inspect the all-singing, semaphoring, badge-collecting Brownie Troupe, she's not expecting spray cans, a hip flask full of whisky and a mushroom that incorporates a short wave radio.

The audience and front of house volunteers are treated as parents and friends of the Brownies in this comedic, slightly absurd play set in 1980s Australia, where the subversive characters are not whatthey seem. As the play progresses, the Brownies' true ages are revealed, their covert operation is exposed and secrets unfold in bizarre fashion at a 'pow-wow' with a difference.

This all-female cast brings you a fast-paced show; which combines humour, music, craft and play.

In Cahoots was first performed in 1989 at the Red Shed theatre in Adelaide, Australia. This production, by Sedos, will be its first performance in the Northern Hemisphere.

Director Emma Leaver says: "In Cahoots not only gives a unique performance opportunity for the women of Sedos, but also creates an dynamic energy and sense of togetherness that are particular to these kind of shows. This sense of belonging and of challenging gender expectations is truly played out in In Cahoots. There is a sense of play, of fun and some unexpected (and occasionally bizarre) plots twists that challenge the audience's perceptions and assumptions of what is going to happen.

"The first time I saw this play as part of the Melbourne International Comedy Festival one of the greatest moments was when the metaphorical spotlight was turned onto the audience and all the little clues of something not being quite right were finally revealed; the "aha" moment we didn't expect.

"Our eight performers will create a world, inside a 1980s Australian Brownie Hut, that has a joyous spirit, filled with live music that has been specially written for the show and handmade craft that will leave you with a wonderful 'I didn't see that coming' feeling as the parents and friends of the First Cardwell Pack."
