Tabloid sensation turned critically acclaimed actress Abi Titmuss and ex Emmerdale star and West End favourite Ben Freeman will headline a brand new production of the hit 1975 Broadway comedy Same Time, Next Year for a strictly limited season at Jersey Arts Centre in St Helier, Jersey, from 10th to 14th May ahead of an anticipated London transfer.
Described by the New York Times as "the funniest comedy about love and adultery to come to Broadway," Same Time, Next Year was a long running hit, clocking up over three and a half years on Broadway in its original staging. It was also nominated for the Tony Award for Best Play and won the Drama Desk Award for outstanding new American Play.
Same Time, Next Year is a romantic comedy about an adulterous love affair taking place only once a year. George, a New Jersey accountant, picks up Doris, a bored housewife, in a California Inn in 1951 and they agree to meet once a year from then on. During the time they spend with each other they discuss the births, deaths and marital problems each is experiencing at home whilst adapting themselves to the social changes affecting their lives.
Same Time, Next Year was adapted into a successful film in 1978, which was nominated for 4 Oscars and for 4 Golden Globes winning 1. ABI TITMUSS was voted as No. 7 Sexiest Woman in the World in 2005 in the FHM Magazine but more recently she has concentrated on her acting career and appeared in a number of stage and TV productions, playing roles including Lady Macbeth in Macbeth.
BEN FREEMAN is an English TV actor best known for his part in ITV's Emmerdale as Scott Windsor. He also played Chris Longworth in the popular children's drama Grange Hill. BERNARD SLADE is a Canadian playwright and TV writer, who was Oscar nominated for his screen adaptation of Same Time, Next Year and has written extensively for US sitcoms such as Bewitched, Love on a Rooftop and Barefoot in the Park.
