A DARKLY comic piece inspired by a Chekhov classic comes to The Marlowe Studio, Canterbury, next month (September).
Storm In A Teacup is the quirky and tender Chaplinesque story of three elderly sisters as they fight the system to keep their independence. It has no dialogue and shares its story through beautifully choreographed set pieces to music, physical comedy, clowning, physical theatre and larger-than-life characters. It is a fun and touching journey through afternoon tea rituals, birthday cakes and chamber pots.
Hot Coals have created a moving and relevant piece, with Chekhov's Three Sisters as its inspiration. It tackles head-on the issues which will affect us all in our old age. As young performers playing women in their dotage they approach the material with sensitivity and a playful humour, inviting us to laugh both at them and ourselves whatever our age.
Storm In A Teacup is British Sign Language-incorporated (making it accessible to deaf and hard-of-hearing audiences) and is the first access performance in The Marlowe Studio. It is at 8pm on Saturday 12 September. Tickets, priced £12 (concessions available, booking fees apply), are from the Box Office on 01227 787787 or marlowetheatre.com.
