A brand-new multimedia installation opens in Hoxton this week, a fusion of stunning visuals and synth-pop funk sounds from M.I.L.K's debut EP 'A Memory Of Memory Of A Postcard'. The installation is currently on view at Hoxton Bar and Grill from 20th November to 1st December 2017.
Displayed on six old CRT televisions stacked together, this immersive multisensory experience takes audiences on a visual journey through M.I.L.K's music and mind, with six striking music videos especially designed for this travelling video installation, which travels to Paris and Copenhagen after its exclusive London run.
Since his first upload to Soundcloud, interest has built quickly around Copenhagen-based M.I.L.K. (Emil Wilk). In May he released his much-anticipated debut visual EP on Capitol records, with key music blogs and taste-makers such as Wonderland, The Line Of Best Fit and NME praising his intoxicating brand of RnB-tinged yacht rock calling it; a "sun-soaked synth-pop beauty" and "a recipe with effortlessly funky results".
The installation explores the summery moods and escapist, autobiographical nature of the tracks. M.I.L.K and co-director Jonas Bang took a journey around the world in search to nuance the songs through distinct visual themes. All footage was made up of a carefully selected palette of tone-in-tone coloured images all shot on 8mm film, RED or VHS in studio or on location in Mexico, USA, Morocco, Paris and Copenhagen.
Speaking about the project, Emil said: "Visuals have always been at the core of everything I do, from creating music to working in visual arts and video direction. For me, the music always come second to the imagery that I have in my mind; the sounds I create are always a sonic interpretation of a mental picture or scenario I've thought up or come across. This project felt like the perfect way to exhibit this unique way of fusing sound with visuals, and to showcase myself as a multimedia artist".
M.I.L.K. headlines The Courtyard Theatre on the 21st November as part of The Great Escape Festival's FIRST FIFTY.
