Out of Joint's revival of Andrea Dunbar's ground-breaking play Rita, Sue and Bob Too heads to Theatre Royal Winchester from Thursday 28 February to Saturday 2 March, opening the UK tour.
Best friends Rita and Sue get a lift home from married Bob after babysitting his kids. When he takes the scenic route and offers them a taste of adult adventure, the three start a fling each of them think they can control.
Told with wicked humour and startling insight, Andrea Dunbar's semi-autobiographical play is a vivid portrait of girls caught between brutal childhood and an unpromising future.
Written when she was just 19, Rita, Sue and Bob Too introduced a unique working-class voice to the stage and was an instant hit. Its fearless realism was immortalized in the cult 1987 film adaptation.
This production of Dunbar's groundbreaking play, directed in 2017 by Out of Joint's Artistic Director Kate Wasserberg and co-produced with Royal Court Theatre and Octagon Theatre, was seen by over 30,000 people across the country. The play makes a triumphant return to the stage following overwhelming public demand.
Gemma Dobson, winner of the Stage Debut Award and a UK Theatre Award for her performance of Sue returns to the cast. She will be joined by John Askew playing Bob, Alyce Liburd playing Rita, Susan Mitchell playing Mum, Samantha Robinson playing Michelle and David Walker playing Dad.
Rita, Sue and Bob Too will be at Theatre Royal Winchester from Thursday 28 February - Saturday 2 March. To find out more or to book visit www.theatreroyalwinchester.co.uk or call the Box Office on 01962 840 440.
