A world premiere, a British premiere and a much loved classic.
The Queen's Theatre Hornchurch has today announced its new autumn programme will feature an unbeatable triptych of fresh perspectives on farce, comedy and thriller. A British premiere of Ken Ludwig's furiously paced farce, A Fox On The Fairway, runs from 25 August - 16 September. Its premiere at the Signature Theatre, Arlington, Virginia (2010) was praised 'a tribute to the great English farces'. After a successful production of Ludwig's Lend Me A Tenor in 2014, the Queen's Theatre is delighted to be bringing this critically acclaimed classic to British audiences for the first time. Philip Wilson is directing (previous Artistic Director at Salisbury Playhouse); his credits include the recent immersive staging of Grimm Tales and acclaimed The Three Lions.
From 27 October - 18 November, a world premiere adaptation of H.G.Wells' iconic sci-fi novella, The Invisible Man, arrives on the stage. It's been adapted by Clem Garritty of multi-award-winning company Kill The Beast whose Don't Wake The Damp won the 2016 The Stage Edinburgh Award and He Had Hairy Hands the 2014 Peter Brook Festival Award. This thriller also marks the directing debut of Ryan McBryde (Before The Party, Salisbury Playhouse) at the Queen's Theatre.
The season also includes a co-production of the much-loved Ealing classic, The Ladykillers with New Wolsey Theatre Ipswich and Salisbury Playhouse. This runs from 3 - 21 October. This continues the successful collaborations the Queen's Theatre has had with the two partner theatres, following the regional premiere of smash-hit musical Made in Dagenham and comedy Worst Wedding Ever.
Artistic Director Douglas Rintoul says, 'I'm thrilled to announce a season that includes a British premiere of a comedy by America's most prolific playwright, a world premiere by one of the UK's most exciting emerging theatre-makers and a collaboration with two major regional partners. We're bringing the best to our brilliant audiences in East London and Essex.' The Queen's Theatre has had a fantastic spring. As a highlight, its chilling production of The Crucible received five-star reviews and is currently on a successful national tour across the UK with Selladoor Productions. It also enjoyed two sold-out performances at Les Théâtres de la Ville in Luxembourg.
The rest of the autumn season at the Queen's Theatre will be announced on May 27. For more information visit queens-theatre.co.uk.
