Q Productions has announced that it will be bringing panto family-favourite ALADDIN to Croydon this December, ensuring that the local community will enjoy a traditional Christmas treat! Waddon Leisure Centre will be converted into a 400 seat theatre space for the whole of December for ALADDIN, certain to be a highlight of the festive season, offering wonderful family entertainment all ages can enjoy together.
Teaming up with The Fairfield Trust and Waddon Leisure Centre, Q Productions will ensure the yearly pantomime goes ahead in Croydon, following the loss of the area's local theatre Fairfield Halls, which is closing in July to undergo a £30 million refurbishment. ALADDIN is being presented with the endorsement of The Fairfield Trust and, with the support of the local community, this is sure to be the best and most welcome pantomime yet!
Kate Vennell, Chair of Fairfield (Croydon) Ltd. said "Panto is so important for introducing children to the excitement of Live Theatre and for families to celebrate the Christmas season. Fairfield is thrilled that Q Productions will be able to offer this experience for our Croydon audience in a local venue during Christmas 2016."
Q Productions is the sister company of The Pauline Quirke Academy of Performing Arts, established to present professional productions throughout the UK. ALADDIN will be a fully produced professional pantomime, directed and produced by Eddie Dredge (Starlight Express, Mad About the Musicals, Fame) and featuring a cast of West End performers, as well as a star name which will be announced shortly.
Open auditions will be held later in the year with Q Productions inviting young performers from the local community to join the juvenile ensemble, providing them with the fantastic opportunity to work alongside professional dancers and performers.
Q Productions hope to continue producing theatre work in Croydon to ensure people in the area still have access to the arts until Fairfield Halls reopens in the Summer of 2018.
Eddie Dredge, Director of Q Productions said: 'We are so pleased that Q Productions will be bringing the magic of ALADDIN to the people of Croydon this December. I have been following the news of Fairfield Halls' closure closely and wanted to help keep theatre alive in the Croydon area while the theatre is dark. Visiting the pantomime at Christmas is time honoured family tradition, and one we're thrilled to preserve for the people in Croydon. I'm really excited for this special production and look forward to working with the local community"
Pauline Quirke, Head Principal of The Pauline Quirke Academy of Performing Arts said: 'I am delighted that Q Productions has chosen to produce pantomime this year in Croydon. As a supporter and advocate of access to the arts, I am thrilled that we are able to provide the local community with theatre performances during the closure of Croydon's arts home. Q Productions' pantomimes are also providing young people in the Croydon community with fantastic opportunities to perform with professional West End performers - something I feel will be an invaluable experience for them. ALADDIN is a classic, and I know Q Productions will produce an extra special show for the people of Croydon who are equally passionate about their theatre.'
