Proud and Loud Arts catapult into their Autumn 2018 season with Cells - A Body of Work (#CABOW) - an arresting and bold collection of live performance installations in response to the rise in reported hate crime towards people living with disability labels.
After a successful premiere at Manchester Art Gallery in 2016, Proud and Loud Arts have been invited to Tate Liverpool from 5th -11th November. The company will take over the renowned gallery with 9 pieces of work and a variety of workshops, discussions and even a disco!
#CABOW includes an hour long group production entitled Affirmations. The live installation encourages audiences to move around the room and observe as the performers transform and perspectives shift.
"Cells - A Body Of Work empowers individuals and communicates a strong and inclusive message to society at large." - Manchester Art Gallery, Ronan Bridley
8 individual artists perform live throughout the gallery, responding to the labels they are confronted with in their lives, offering a challenging perspective on stigma. Some labels are shared, others unique. Some are given special treatment and a glass of champagne, and others are put in a safe place where no one can find them.
Artistic Director, Tom Hogan joined Proud and Loud Arts in 2000. The company has become known for inviting audiences to be more than passive observers:
"This is an exciting group of emerging artists who have developed beautiful, and at times mind blowing, immersive performances.
"Each work of art is a unique piece that pushes and challenges our sometimes rigid understanding of identity."
#CABOW forms part of DaDaFest International, returning to Liverpool City Region for 2018 with events being held at a wide range of venues across the city centre and beyond including St George's Hall, Royal Court Liverpool, the Bluecoat, Tate Exchange, Constellations, the Unity Theatre and World Museum. #DadaFest runs 1st November - 8th December 2018.
Should you not be able to make it to Liverpool, #CABOW will return to Manchester from the 23rd to the 25th November at the Whitworth Art Gallery. Over 3 days, audiences will be able to visit existing works whilst also encountering these unique performance installations.
This collection of work has been made possible with funding from Arts Council England, Salford Clinical Commissioning Group and Salford CVS with the support of Antz Junction and Manchester Art Gallery.
