He's the man who launched Martin Lawrence, Chris Tucker, Bernie Mac and StEve Harvey on the road to international stardom on HBO's Def Comedy Jam : US TV producer Bob Sumner is coming to the UK next month for an in conversation ahead of a film screening.
HBO's hugely popular Def Comedy Jam bought a brash new generation of urban comedians onto US TV screens in the 1990s, with many going on to huge careers in America and internationally.
Bob Sumner was the Comedy Club promoter, turned talent booker who sought out the best talent from the USA's Comedy Clubs for mogul Russell Simmons, making career changing decisions along the way.
He'll be talking about his career and candidly about the many acts he's worked with to UK comedian and producer John Simmit, best known for playing Dipsy in BBC TV's international phenomenon Teletubbies, as wel as producing many UK comedy tours and international festival events in the past 20 years.
Def Comedy Jam also gave pushes to already rising stars like Dave Chappelle, Oscar winner Jamie Foxx and Chris Rock, whose latest film Top 5 features as part of the evening.
