Polka Theatre Announces 2018 Summer Workshops

This summer Polka Theatre has plenty in store for little ones and families with classes and workshops, both term time clubs and holiday workshops. Take Part workshops provide the opportunities for everyone to get involved at Polka. From holiday workshops to after-school clubs, children can step behind the scenes to create their own performances, have fun and learn new skills for ages 6 months - 14 years.
During October Half Term and the Christmas Holidays, Polka are offering a range of seasonal workshops that explore areas such as drama techniques and movement to puppet and mask making. Available for ages 6 months - 14 years.

MAKE SOME NOISE
25 July
Explore how to create your own unique sound using your body and voice. Join Melissa James from the #LiveAgain Project, in a fun up beat vocal workshop. You will explore how to create your own unique sound using your body and voice. Culminating in a short sharing at the end of the day.
Ages 8 - 14
PLAY IN A DAY DOUBLE ACT!
1 August
Create your very own play inspired by Jacqueline Wilson's Double Act to perform to family and friends at the end of the day. There will be a mixture of improvisation exercises, roleplay, physical and text work so bring lots of creativity and come prepared to play.
Ages 6 - 9
MOVE ON UP!
2 Aug
Get into the swing of summer in this energetic dance workshop. Work with our professional dancer to create your own unique moves and build your own dance routine to show to family and friends at the end of the day.

SANDY STORIES
3 August
Seek out some shade to enjoy stories inspired by the beach in this multi-sensory drama and craft workshop.

MUSICAL PUPPET THEATRE
6 - 10 August
Perform on the Polka Main Stage! Work with our professional puppeteer and musical director to create your very own show to perform to family and friends at the end of the week.

SUMMER STAGE SHOW
13 - 17 August
Budding actors can spend a week training and working with a professional theatre director to explore a variety of drama techniques, learn new skills and create a new piece of theatre to perform for friends and family on the Polka Main Stage.
Ages 8 - 14
Operating for over 40 years, Polka is one of the UK's leading theatre venues for children ages 0 - 14. Over 90,000 children, along with their families and teachers, from across London and the South East visit each year to see inspiring, new theatre including plays, opera, dance, digital theatre and puppetry as well as interactive storytelling and creative learning workshops. Although firmly rooted in the local community, Polka is a National Theatre Company with productions travelling across the UK and overseas to cities as far apart as Toronto, Istanbul, Shanghai, Sydney and Hong Kong.
Polka will be celebrating its 40th birthday in 2019, and are on the cusp of its first major redevelopment, ensuring they can create a future Polka which continues to inspire generations of children and families for at least another 40 years.
