A physical theatre show designed to entertain children and their parents which has been created with the help of over 120 children, teachers and early years experts opens at Pleasance entitled Hoof!

Performed and created by award-winning performer Niki McCretton this charming and quirky new show is about a horse that belongs to a child who prefers watching TV to riding bareback. From her stable door the lonely pony spies the TV and her life takes a new track when the remote control is dropped within hoof-reach. Watching wild west films and horse adventures like Mr Ed, Black Beauty and Champion The Wonder Horse she realises she's not just a dumb animal and launches on a quest for a herd, humour and a life without shoes!

Hoof! is performed by Niki McCretton with specially created puppets, tap dancing hooves, film clips and an original score by Paul Riordan. Directed by Amit Lahav and Helen Baggett (of Gecko theatre company) with Nikky Smedley (of Teletubbies and In the Night Garden fame) as advisor, the show cements her reputation for creating shows for children that are both arty and accessible. Her previous show Muttnik, the First Dog in Space has been performed in over 150 venues.

Says Venue director, Anthony Alderson ‘Hoof! covers ideas about identity, friendship and our need for adventure. For adults it triggers childhood memories. For children it creates memories. We are really pleased to welcome Niki McCretton to Pleasance. Hoof! is the perfect family friendly show for us. It is difficult to find physical theatre shows that can appeal to adults and children, boys as well as girls but this does!'
