The sun was beating down on Swanage this week as the company of professional actors and creatives from around the UK gathered on the beach to launch Hordern Ciani's second season of repertory theatre at The Mowlem.
Accompanied by The Mayor of Swanage, Councillor Mike Bonfield, and the Mayoress, Audrey Bonfield, the team caused quite a stir in the town whilst spending time chatting to locals and holiday makers.
The Mayor commented "We are so happy to have Swanage Rep coming back to give us a second season this summer. The Mayoress and I attended all three shows last year and we thought they were fantastic. Looking around us each week we saw lots of local faces and felt a real sense of community in the theatre."
The company's aim behind restoring rep is to see the theatre thriving once more as a hub of creativity, and last year's successful season has already boosted The Mowlem's live theatre programme.
The Mayor added "This has put Swanage on the theatrical map as one of only a few towns in the country that are reviving repertory, something for us all to be proud of. It is an absolute treat and we hope that this season will be even more successful than the last to secure a lengthy future for this venture"
On the 8th July from 12 noon, the company will be hosting open auditions at the Mowlem Theatre for local young people interested in gaining experience of working with a professional rep theatre company. The auditions are open to all young people between the ages of 16 and 21 and no theatre experience or training is needed. Further information can be found on www.swanagerep.com
