Sean Foley (The Painkiller) directs Griff Rhys Jones and Lee Mack in an adaptation of Molière's classic comedy The Miser at London's Garrick Theatre. Adapted by Foley and Phil Porter, The Miser is the rip-roaring comedy from one of France's greatest dramatists. A major revival that is sure to rock the West End, The Miser begins previews on March 1st, with an official opening on March 13th 2017.

First performed in 1668, The Miser is the well-known comedy by French playwright Molière, who also penned classics such as Tartuffe and The Misanthrope. The Miser follows the paranoid Harpagon, who is extremely fanatical about protecting his abundant wealth. Suspecting everyone as trying to steal his fortune, Harpagon will quite literally go to any length to protect his pennies.

Setting his sights on rich spouses for his children, he struggles when their true feelings about his skinflint nature are revealed. But what will prevail? Will it be the love for his money or for his children? Passions and purse-strings go head to head in this perfectly poignant comedy, starring Griff Rhys Jones as Harpagon.

The Miser played limited seasons at the Bath Theatre Royal and Richmond Theatre prior to its West End run at the Garrick Theatre. Following from political drama This House, The Miser will be a welcome comic turn, due to run from March 1st to June 10th 2017.

The Miser is adapted by Sean Foley and Phil Porter, with direction from Sean Foley. His most recent production was the critically-acclaimed The Painkiller, starring Kenneth Branagh and Rob Brydon, as part of the Branagh Season at the Garrick. Foley's credits include multiple smash-hit West End comedies such as The Ladykillers, Jeeves & Wooster in Perfect Nonsense, What the Butler Saw, I Can't Sing and his Olivier Award-winning The Play What I Wrote. The Miser is produced by Mark Goucher and Mark Rubinstein Ltd.

Olivier Award-winning actor Griff Rhys Jones stars as Harpagon, in his first return to a London stage for five years. Rhys Jones' most recent stage appearance was as Fagin in Cameron Mackintosh's revival of Oliver!, with his extensive stage and screen credits including An Absolute Turkey, Porterhouse Blue, Mine All Mine and ITV's It'll Be Alright on the Night. Further cast members include BAFTA-winning comedian Lee Mack, who is best-known for his stand-up routines across the country, as well as starring on his own popular sitcom Not Going Out. Lee Mack makes his West End debut in The Miser after featuring on panel shows such as Would I Lie to You and Have I Got News For You, and is joined by Mathew Horne, who is best known for his television roles in Gavin & Stacey and Bad Education.

Further casting includes Saikat Ahamed, Ryan Gage, Simon Holmes, Andi Osho, Michael Webber, Ellie White and Katy Wix.
