Tom Attenborough will direct Rhapsody of Words' production of Neil LaBute's The Shape of Things at The Gallery Soho, which runs from 27 January to 6 March 2011, with press night on 1 February 2011. Designs are by Francesca Reidy, with lighting by Joshua Carr and sound by Victoria Wilkinson. The cast is Katy Marks, Lucy Marks, Andrew Nolan and Edward Rowett.

This production is a site responsive piece incorporating the setting of the art gallery into the world of the play, with the audience standing as they would in a traditional gallery.
Adam is a non-descript young student who works part-time in an art museum and a video store just to pay his way through college. That is, until he meets Evelyn, at which moment his life changes. Evelyn instils a new-found confidence in Adam, making him feel better about himself by changing his appearance, helping him lose weight, and giving him fashion advice. Soon Adam is attracting attention he has never had before. But how far is Adam willing to go to make his relationship with Evelyn work? And how much will he change his perception of himself from what he used to be to what he believes he wants to be?
Rhapsody of Words was set up in 2010 to produce theatre that matches texts to specific venues in which the core of each play may be best explored. Headed by Tom Attenborough, whose previous work as an Assistant Director includes Masterclass at Theatre Royal Bath, House of Games at The Almeida Theatre and Love Story at the Minerva Theatre, Chichester, this is its premier production.

Neil LaBute directed the world premiere of The Shape of Things for the Almeida at King's Cross in 2001. His other writing credits include The Mercy Seat, Bash, The Distance From Here, In a Dark Dark House, Reasons To Be Pretty, Fat Pig and the recent premiere of The Break of Noon. His play In A Forest Dark and Deep will open at the Vaudeville Theatre in Spring 2011. LaBute's film work includes Death at a Funeral, The Shape of Things, In the Company of Men, Your Friends and Neighbors, Nurse Betty, Possession and Wicker Man.
