Following its five-star premiere in 2013, English National Ballet's production of LE CORSAIRE returns with performances at the London Coliseum from tonight 13 - Sunday 24 January 2016. BroadwayWorld has a first look at the dancers onstage below!
Winner of the Robert Robson Award for Dance at the Manchester Theatre Awards, LE CORSAIRE follows the escapades of Conrad, a pirate, who journeys across high seas to save his harem girl, Medora. It is a swashbuckling fantasy tale of captive maidens and cutthroats, love and betrayal, deception and conspiracy, culminating in one of the most breath-taking spectacles in ballet.
LE CORSAIRE offers audiences the chance to see guest artists Osiel Gouneo (as Conrad), Principal with Norwegian Ballet, and Brooklyn Mack (as Lankendem), Principal with Washington Ballet, perform with English National Ballet for the first time. Also in the cast are Tamara Rojo as Medora, Laurretta Summerscales as Gulnare, Cesar Corrales as Ali and Yonah Acosta as Birbanto.
The first UK company to perform the complete work, English National Ballet's production features sets and costumes by Hollywood film designer Bob Ringwood, whose film credits include Batman, Alien 3, and Troy, and a sweeping, romantic score performed live by the English National Ballet Philharmonic.
In June 2016 English National Ballet will present LE CORSAIRE on the Palais Garnier stage, becoming the first UK Company to perform there in over 65 years. For more information, click here.
