After winning the ‘Perrier Young Jazz Musician of the Year' Award in 1999, Zoe Rahman has quickly established herself as one of the brightest stars on the contemporary jazz scene. Her second album, Melting Pot, was nominated in 2006 for the Mercury Music Prize and more recently she achieved an achingly beautiful fusion of jazz, classical and Bengali music in her highly-acclaimed album Where Rivers Meet, which featured arrangements of Nobel prize-winner Rabindranath Tagore's music. The programme for this tour features pieces from Where Rivers Meet as well as from Zoe's outstanding live album, and debuts some new material written specially for the tour.

Rahman's willingness to push musical boundaries is matched by her technical brilliance. Noted for her inventiveness, explosive two-fisted technique, and the tumbling cascades of notes she often trades with her brother, the honey-toned clarinettist, Idris Rahman, this mesmerising pianist is aided and abetted by a top-notch rhythm section featuring American drummer Gene Calderazzo and British bass player Oli Hayhurst. In the words of jazz reviewer Chris Parker, brace yourself for "all the punch, pith and sheer verve of the Rahman live act".

This great evening of Jazz is presented by Music Network at Wexford Opera House on Saturday, February 12, at 8pm in the intimate Jerome Hynes Theatre. Tickets are €20/€18 concession and are available through www.wexfordoperahouse.ie or call the box office on 053 912 2144. No booking fee applies.
