Ottisdotter Productions presents Gotthold Ephraim Lessing's German classic Emilia Galotti at the Barons Court Theatre in London from Tuesday 2nd September to Saturday 13th September.

Rarely staged in English, Lessing's Emilia Galotti is a tale of absolute power, lust and honour. Considered to be as famous as Hamlet in its native Germany, this Enlightenment-era tragedy tells the story of the virtuous Emilia, whose wedding day starts a chain of events which unravel apace. Based on the Roman myth of Verginia, the play shows the limitless excess of the aristocracy and the will of the people to resist. Lessing's important tragedy showed how frivolous cause could lead to harrowing effect, and shone a light on European Royal autocracy.

Ottisdotter Productions, the company behind the record-breaking revival of Henrik Ibsen's Lady Inger in October 2013 is led by Mark Ewbank. The ensemble's production of Emilia Galotti, features an impressive, seasoned cast including Samuel Haughton as arch-manipulator Marinelli, Che Watson as The Prince, Roseanne Lynch (RIFT's immersive Macbeth) in the title role of Emilia and Francesca Burgoyne as The Countess Orsina; one of the most tragicomic roles in German theatre. Peter Wheal-Jones and Selma Glasell take on the protagonists; Eduardo and Claudia Galotti.
