The World Premiere of Lucinda Burnett's coming-of-age drama Correspondence and a radical re-imagining of Thomas Kyd's bloody classic The Spanish Tragedy lead the charge for a new season of work at the Old Red Lion Theatre.
Following a triumphant winter season that saw the sell-out premiere production of Arthur Miller's No Villain, the Islington pub theatre is continuing its commitment to bold new writing and vivid, ambitious productions by some of the country's most exciting theatre makers.
Opening in February, Dan Hutton (Barrel Organ) directs a brutal new version of The Spanish Tragedy, the first pre-20th century play produced at the theatre for 3 years. This bold new production takes the first revenge tragedy and turns it insideout, serving it up with a generous dollop of blood and a serving of sweet sweet justice.
In March, Blythe Stewart directs Lucinda Burnett's powerful new drama Correspondence, a bittersweet story of fledgling friendships and mental health set between Stockport and Syria, on the brink of the Arab Spring.
April sees the first full production of Felix Trench's brilliant Radioman, last seen in a limited run at the St. James Theatre. A one-man show directed by Tom Crowley of Crowley & Co. productions, it's a story of obsession and eccentricity that starts on the English waterways and floats out across the galaxy.
