Christmas comes early this year as Northern Ballet's heart-warming and hugely popular adaptation of Charles Dickens' classic tale A Christmas Carol returns to the Lyceum Theatre from Tuesday 5 - Saturday 9 November 2013.
This magical production, originally directed by former Artistic Director Christopher Gable and choreographed by Massimo Moricone, combines traditional ballet and captivating theatre to tell the story of Ebenezer Scrooge and his magical night with three terrifying ghosts.
Colourful sets and costumes by Olivier Award-winning Lez Brotherston (Northern Ballet's Romeo & Juliet, Matthew Bourne's Sleeping Beauty, Swan Lake, Edward Scissorhands) conjure up a traditional Victorian Christmas, while Carl Davis' festive score blends classical music with traditional Christmas Carols, played live by Northern Ballet Sinfonia and sung by the dancers.
David Nixon explains: 'Restaging what has become a signature piece from the era of Christopher Gable demonstrates Northern Ballet's commitment to preserving our heritage by performing key works from our repertoire. A Christmas Carol has delighted audiences nationwide for more than a decade. It is a great festive production that appeals to the whole family.'
