The Belgrade Theatre has announced a selection of new shows to go on sale for 2017 which is turning out to be a show-stopping year, packed full of music, dance, laughter, drama and family fun.
Going the whole hog this summer is family classic, Babe - The Sheep Pig, in a heart-warming tale of friendship, adventure and bravery. Adapted by Olivier Award winner David Wood (Goodnight Mister Tom, James and the Giant Peach, The BFG), Babe follows the incredible story of one piglet's rise to become the world famous Sheep-Pig.
This enchanting family favourite, based on the classic novel by Dick King Smith which inspired the Oscar-winning film, is brought to life by a cast of West End performers in a show brimming with laughter, thrills, puppetry and original live music. It will run on the Belgrade's Main Stage from Thurs 13 to Sat 15 July.
Also announced this week is the ultimate Ian Dury and the Blockheads musical, Reasons to be Cheerful, playing on the Main Stage on Fri 8 & Sat 9 Sept.
This punk rock musical and gritty coming of age tale will feature all the band's greatest hits from Sex and Drugs and Rock and Roll, Sweet Gene Vincent, Spasticus Autisticus and Hit Me with your Rhythm Stick.
Having toured nationwide and performed as part of the London 2012 Paralympic Games Opening Ceremony, this acclaimed show is heading back out on the road one last time. All performances will be fully accessible and include captioned dialogue, BSL-interpreted songs and audio description.
Following the enormous sell-out success of Gangsta Granny in 2016, the Belgrade Theatre also welcomes Awful Auntie, the next in the series of best-selling children's books by David Walliams to be brought to the stage. This world premiere production by the acclaimed Birmingham Stage Company comes to Coventry from Tues 20 to Sat 24 Feb 2018.
Back at the Belgrade this October is the world renowned Russian State Ballet and Opera presenting three classical gems, Swan Lake on Mon 23 Oct, Nutcracker on Tues 24 Oct and Romeo & Juliet on Weds 25 Oct. With stunning choreography, world class dancers and live orchestra, this is an experience not be missed.
As always, the Belgrade will be presenting an eclectic range of live music shows including Be Bop a Lula, Jive Talkin' perform The Bee Gees - Live in Concert, The Quo Experience, Bobby Sox and Blue Jeans, The Songs of Rod Stewart, Vampires Rock - Ghost Train, Islands in the Stream - The Music of Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers, Magic of the Beatles and 80's Mania.
All of these shows and more will form the Belgrade's Autumn 2017 Season which includes the previously announced shows Godiva Rocks; a new musical featuring hit songs from Coventry artists through the decades, and of course this year's magical pantomime, Cinderella.
