Needless Alley Collective in collaboration with the King's Head Theatre presents The Shoemaker's Wonderful Wife By Federico Garcia Lorca.
Be drawn into the fantasy world of the old Shoemaker and his beautiful wife; Witness the gossiping women of the village, the innocent boy who tries to help and the overseeing Mayor who is just as bad as the rest.Fresh from its debut at the Etcetera Theatre Club as part of the Camden Fringe festival, this dynamic and highly energetic production of Lorca's masterpiece gets its first transfer to London's first and most exciting fringe venue, the King's Head Theatre.
This unique take on Lorca's farce intertwines traditional Spanish flamenco and contemporary acoustic rhythms. It brings an original and at times heartwarming approach to Lorca's farcical take on the dysfunctional ways of married life, whilst enhancing its Spanish roots, making this ensemble piece a feast for the ears and the eyes for all types of audiences, including families.
First performed in 1930, The Shoemaker's Wonderful Wife is set in a rural Spanish village and tells
the story of the busty, lusty wife of the local Shoemaker and her relationship with the villagers. In
this production, Lorca uses his well known farcical writings to portray this surprisingly realistic social criticism of traditional Catholic communities and the cultural oppression on the inhabitants,
particularly on those who refuse to comply with the norms.
The Shoemaker's Wonderful Wife performs the 27th? 30th October at 7.15pm; 29th September at 3pm. Tickets: concession £12; £14 & 18. The King's Head Theatre is located at 115 Upper Street, Islington N1 1QN. For more information visit www.kingsheadtheatre.com or call 0207 478 0160.
