Newcastle's undisputed queen of comedy Miss Rory is ready to sharpen her tongue and her pen for her One Woman show at the Tyne Theatre and Opera House this September.

The self-proclaimed "people's princess" can normally be found making unsuspecting punters quake in their kitten heels or Burton brogues as Boulevard's compere and hostess with the mostess but on Thursday, September 1, all eyes will be on the statuesque star when she makes her standup debut.

They say behind every good man is a good woman, well in this case, behind the popular acid- tongued drag queen there is a man who now has the job of penning a script for his alter-ego to use as the springboard for her not for the easily offended repartee. Dan Cunningham has been performing as Miss Rory for over 10 years now, with Rory really coming into her own in the past six, ever since Boulevard first highkicked its way into Newcastle's affections.

Dan admits that agreeing to the show at the Tyne Theatre did leave him feeling rather daunted so to see tickets going flying out of the box office as soon as they went on sale was not only massively pleasing but also a huge relief.

"When my producer Jamie first put the idea of the show to me my first response was 'do you think people would come?' So to then see the show be 70% sold out after just a day of the tickets going on sale was amazing."

"I was very nervous to see how sales would go and that's now been replaced with the pressure of giving people a night to remember."

As Miss Rory, Dan is already very much an observational comic, just ask anyone who's travelled to Boulevard from Carlisle or donned any ill-fitting leggings for their night out there! So he's now tasked with honing his banter with the Boulevard faithful into a cohesive stand up script.

One Woman is being produced by Jamie Owen Gray who approached Dan last year with the concept for the show.

Jamie "Like so many in the North East, I'm a massive fan of Boulevard and the work that they do there and this is a great opportunity for Rory to get the chance do more of what she does best"

" I've sat in Boulevard countless times now and looked around at the audience's reaction - normally after being insulted, and they absolutely love it. Miss Rory has a unique style and acerbic sense of humor which very much appeals to me and of course to her many fans."

"I'm sure most of Newcastle would agree that a show like this is long overdue and I'm thrilled to be working alongside Dan in one of my favourite venues" Dan adds "It's not going to be a momentous piece of theatre but the main aim is to give people a good time for their hard earned. What I love about Boulevard is the interaction with people and I want plenty of that in One Woman too.
