Midlands Academy of Dance and Drama (MADD to its friends) is one of the UK's leading professional musical theatre colleges and is pleased to announce details of its very first 'Boys Only Workshop Day' on Saturday 24 March 2018.
To encourage more boys to audition and train at the Nottingham based college, and eventually enter the exciting theatre world, the day of FREE workshops has been specifically designed for boys aged 14 and above who have a keen interest in musical theatre. A range of classes in acting, singing and dance will be facilitated by leading industry professionals - all at the very top of their particular field.
Passing on their invaluable knowledge and expertise during the day at MADD's own studios, just a few miles from Nottingham's city centre, is an incredible line-up of theatre professionals.
Andrew Wright is a double Olivier Award nominee and twice WhatsOnStage Award winner and is a choreographer and director in great demand. MADD is thrilled he will be teaching a musical theatre workshop during the Boys Only Workshop Day. Andrew has choreographed numerous productions in the West End, national tours and internationally, including most recently: Nativity (Birmingham Rep & National tour); Five Guys Named Moe (Marble Arch Theatre) nominated for Best Choreographer WhatsOnStage Awards 2018; Half A Sixpence for Cameron Mackintosh (Chichester Festival Theatre, Noel Coward Theatre) winner of Best Choreographer WhatsOnStage Awards 2017; Singin' In The Rain (Chichester Festival Theatre, Palace Theatre, UK national tour, Japan, Asia, Russia and Australia) winner of Best Choreographer WhatsOnStage Awards 2013 and nominated for Best Choreographer Olivier Awards 2012, Helpmann Awards 2016 and Broadway World Awards 2011/2016; Guys and Dolls (Chichester Festival Theatre Phoenix, Savoy Theatre and National Tour) Best Choreographer nomination Olivier Awards 2016 and Broadway World Awards 2014/16; and Barnum (Theatre in the Park, Chichester and National Tour) Best Choreographer nomination Broadway World Awards 2013.
Andrew Wright will choreograph a new production of Oklahoma! at Grange Park Opera for summer 2018 and direct and choreograph Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat for Kilworth House, July - September 2018.
Also lined up to teach during the very special boys' day at MADD is Glyn Kerslake. Glyn has played the lead role in many West End musicals, including the title role in Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber's The Phantom of the Opera, will lead a singing workshop from vocal warm-up to musical theatre repertory. Choreographer Stuart Hayes, a Carl Alan Dance Award winner is known for his work on numerous arena tours and fashion shows will take a Commercial Jazz class.
Peter Parker, a Britain's Got Talent finalist in 2015 with his wife Shannon, will take a ballet class with a difference called 'Ballet with a Twist'. Edward Nudd is a professional actor and will teach an improvisation acting class. Edward has a varied career across film, television, theatre and voice overs. In theatre he has appeared in shows both nationally and in London's West End. He has appeared in several films and has just completed an advert due for release later this year. An accomplished 'voice over' artist, Edward has lent his voice to some of the biggest global brands and TV stations and can be heard regularly on Sky Broadcasting providing audio description for visually impaired viewers.
The Boys Only Workshop Day is FREE but places are limited.
