Cabaret, Chicago & All That Jazz... Kander & Ebb wrote them all. Diva-Chanteuse, Melody La Rouge sings them all in this affectionate tribute to Broadway's best, Kiss of the Red Menace: A Tribute to Kander & Ebb, coming to Brighton Fringe 2013.
Multiple Tony Award winners Kander & Ebb have been responsible for some of the greatest creations of the American musical stage. Melody La Rouge is a performer in the grand tradition of power singers such as Liza Minnelli and Chita Rivera - with an astonishing vocal range and commitment to rival the greats. In fact, Ms La Rouge has always wanted to be Liza Minnelli - and this is her time to shine.
Kiss of the Red Menace premiered at Brighton Fringe in May 2011, it has, like Kander & Ebb themselves, had something of a chequered history with the critics. However, following numerous re-writes it finally achieved critical success with a '7 Fringe Festivals in 4 months' tour in 2012 and was nominated for Best Solo Vocal Music Show - Buxton Fringe 2012! Following a few more subtle tweaks to the show, Ms La Rouge's Fringe Tour 2013 sets off in Brighton (May), will take in Bedford, London & Buxton (July) and culminate in a 2 week run in Edinburgh (August).
Melody La Rouge is aka singer and actress Kerry Jo Hodgkin. A 33 Records recording artiste, she has worked on the UK Jazz & Blues scenes for many years - with successful runs at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2009 and 2010 with her show "Jazz Table in the Corner" and 2011 with "Shades of Blue" at the award-winning Jazz Bar. She has sung everywhere from Ronnie Scott's in London to BB King's in New York. However, in 2010 she began to sing on the London Cabaret/Burlesque scene - loved it - and in 2011 Melody La Rouge was born.
