Marc Almond to Bring Tour to Parr Hall Next Spring

Warrington's Parr Hall has been selected as one of just five venues to host an eagerly-anticipated tour by Marc Almond.

One of Britain's most gifted and unique vocal talents, Marc Almond, who is best known for being one half of Soft Cell and his hugely successful solo career, has announced a UK tour in March 2017.

He will be performing songs from both eras ahead of a new album Hits and Pieces to be released the same month.

With shows in London, Perth, York, Buxton and Warrington, the tour is a celebration of Marc Almond's 60th birthday year and will feature a full band performing No. 1 singles Tainted Love, which spent a record 43 consecutive weeks in the US singles charts, Something's Gotten Hold Of My Heart, recorded with Gene Pitney, plus many more of his biggest and best-loved hits.

The songs performed on the tour will also feature on the new album Hits and Pieces which will be available in one and two-CD formats on Universal.

Described by The Observer as "a musician who has never stood still", Marc Almond found fame in the early 1980s as one half of the pioneering synth-pop duo Soft Cell, and has had a hugely successful, prolific and diverse solo career that has seen him sell more than 30 million records worldwide.

His back catalogue includes much-revered interpretations of Belgian singer-songwriter Jacques Brel songs as well as his own self-penned pieces.

Q Magazine recently referred to Marc Almond as "one of pop's greatest voices" and he has also collaborated with many other legendary figures in music including Tony Visconti, Jools Holland and Nico.

Most recently, Marc performed as part of the BBC Proms celebration of David Bowie's music.

Now, as he approaches his 60th birthday, these shows are an opportunity to celebrate the "hits and pieces" that have made up one of the most iconic careers in British popular music.

Pyramid & Parr Hall are two of the North West's leading arts and entertainment venues for music, comedy, dance, drama and much more. The venues have played host to big name acts including John Bishop, The Stone Roses, Billy Ocean, Jools Holland and Peter Kay to name a few.

Parr Hall is a listed building and has been a long standing feature of Warrington's cultural scene since its opening in 1895. It is a medium sized concert venue with 1000 seats. Pyramid opened in 2002, with support from Arts Council England and the National Lottery, as an arts centre focusing on smaller performances and community events. It offers a range of spaces to hire for events, weddings and conferences.

The venues are run by Culture Warrington which is a charitable trust that was established in May 2012 to also manage Warrington Museum & Art Gallery and cultural events across the town including Warrington Festival and Warrington Contemporary Arts Festival.
