The wait is finally over! For MONSIEUR MONTPELLIER -- the world's greatest magician, adventurer and storyteller - shall be appearing at the Islington Pleasance to give a sneak peek of his forthcoming 2009 Edinburgh Fringe Pleasance show!
Gasp in AMAZEMENT, shriek in DELIGHT and recoil in HORROR as Montpellier recounts a 'famous' story from his past -- fresh from memory and as suggested by the audience! With Montpellier starring as himself and his servant Le Cabaret filling in a cast of characters in various guises, the story will be brought to life before the audience's very eyes. Montpellier's act is truly versatile and the combination of carefully practiced tricks and spontaneous improvisation on stage means that the act can be tailored to suit all needs.
If that were not enough, Montpellier shall be joined by some very special guests to complete the Gallic theme. Erotic French puppetry will be provided by the brilliant Nadia Kamil and Kirsten Coulter Smith ("Laughs and lunacy in one tight package" - The List, "A cracking pair" - Richard Herring) and further acts will be announced. A splendid time is guaranteed for all!
Nick and Jack have been performing improvised comedy for over six years and currently co-run the improvised comedy group Dead Man in a Box ("Undeniably sharp, well-oiled and impressive" Such Small Portions, 2008).
Nick and Jack's aim for Monsieur Montpellier has been to get beyond the typical ‘Who's Line Is It' improvised style that dominates most shows and instead take improvised comedy into new territory. Taking on audience suggestions, the two spontaneously act out a feature-length story, with both playing all the characters and no telling where it may lead! The performance is high-energy and, although primarily comedic, includes elements of physical theatre, mime and Derren Brown-style feats, with live prop-making and music played by the two. Through these different elements they transport the audience into a completely new world.
Other theatrical credits include performances at the Cambridge Footlights, Latitude Festival, Bloomsbury Theatre and the BBC, as well as the Edinburgh Fringe from 2005-2008. They also currently write and perform as part of the sketch group The Three Englishmen, as well as pursuing separate comedy and performance interests.
