Coming to Sheffield Theatres as part of its UK tour, Morecambe, a brand new production of the Olivier award-winning West End play about the man who brought sunshine into millions of British homes, comes to the Lyceum Theatre from Tuesday 8 - Wednesday 9 April.
Charting his journey from humble beginnings to attracting 28 million viewers on Christmas Day, Tim Whitnall's hit show Morecambe was awarded the Olivier Award for Best Entertainment in 2010 and this new production marks the 30th anniversary since the passing of Eric Morecambe.
Directed by Paul Hendy, writer and director of the hugely successful Lyceum Theatre pantomimes who returns to Sheffield following on from Jack and The Beanstalk in December, and starring the Olivier nominated Bob Golding in the title role, Morecambe is a moving, often hilarious tale about one of Britain's best-loved entertainers. Heart-warming, tear-jerking and laughter-inducing, this unmissable show will 'bring sunshine into the lives of all who see it' (Daily Telegraph).
Speaking about the production, Eric Morecambe's son, Gary Morecambe says: 'Bob is a family friend, and never fails to astonish us with his knowledge and understanding of my father, Eric Morecambe. On stage, his performance captures the spirit of Eric, and cleverly delivers the important bits of his story in a whistle-stop tour of his life that is quite astounding to behold. I never get bored watching him in full 'Eric' flow, and am delighted to be a small part of the team bringing back this unique performance to theatres around the country.'
Morecambe comes to the Lyceum Theatre from Tuesday 8 - Wednesday 9 April at 8.00pm. Tickets are priced £20.00 (concessions available) and can be purchased from Sheffield Theatres' Box Office on 0114 249 6000, in person and online at sheffieldtheatres.co.uk. A transaction fee of £1.50 (£1.00 online) applies to all bookings made at the Box Office excluding cash.
