LOOSE MUSE - London's only regular event for women writers of all genresWednesday, 13th October @ at the Poetry Café, 22 Betterton Street, London WC2 (closest tube = Covent Garden).
Hosted by Sara-Mae Tuson and featuring Maggie Butt and Alison McLeod. Come along and sign up for the Open Mic portion of the evening.Starting at 8pm - £5.00/£3.00 concs. Well it looks like I'm back to host another Loose Muse! Agnes is off to sunny Spain for a short break and I am stepping in just as autumn seems to be kicking in with big hobnailed boots. To help us enjoy cosying up together at the Poetry Café we have two brilliant writers.
Robert Nye said of Maggie Butt's work: "Why is poetry so rarely good-hearted? Maggie Butt's is a shining exception. Her generous work enfolds the hopes of a GI bride, the perfectionism of an anorexic girl and the cardboard of a child's crown. Her poems are sympathetic, skilful - and surprising." An ex-journalist, Maggie has been a jobbing writer as well as a poet so please come along to ask her questions about how she managed to juggle the creative end and the work aspect of her career.
Alison McLeod is a short fiction writer of 'fragmentary evocations of desire and its mysteries, passing glimpses into minds and hearts: tender; pierced; translucent.... [Her] characters are strong, and they are worth listening to...' The Guardian (2007). Come along and pelt her with questions afterwards
