Little Angel Theatre is committed to helping new and emerging artists to explore and research new work, discovering the parameters and possibilities of puppetry.
Through its INCUBATE and HATCH programmes, The company provides opportunities for R&D space and time, and a scratch performance festival.
In March 2013 the theatre is taking the next step in this journey by launching a festival to help companies premiere new, audience-ready puppetry productions which they then intend to tour.
FIRSTS will take place at Little Angel Theatre during 2 weeks each March for the next three years, beginning 11th to 23rd March 2013. It will be a festival of premieres of puppetry theatre. The work shown will not be in-development but ready to be seen by paying audiences with the potential to tour at the small scale. Both work for adults and families/children will be included.
Little Angel FIRSTS will promote, showcase and support companies that are creating new professional puppetry productions. Audiences will be able to see performances for only £5, encouraging them to take a risk and discover something different.
Companies taking part will primarily be new and emerging, rather than established, and will perform between one and four performances during the festival, with up to 6 companies participating. By participating in FIRSTS companies will be part of an exciting new event that will catch the imagination of audiences, programmers and the press.
Take part – applications now open! To be part of Little Angel FIRSTS Festival 2013 companies need to apply by the deadline of 20th November 2012. A selection panel will then review all applications. The selected companies will be informed by 17th December 2012.
