The Lipscomb Cars Group are the new - and first - sponsor of comedy nights at The Marlowe Studio. Their first show is this Saturday's Comedy Cabaret (1 March). The Kent-based company has also come on board as sponsors of Canterbury Children's Festival with their Volvo dealerships at Canterbury and Maidstone.

Peter Barnes, Lipscomb's Managing Director, said he believed the two initiatives would bring enjoyment and laughter to lots of people. "Whilst our name is synonymous for Volvo in Kent, we want the public to look at this brand with 'fresh eyes' but also to promote the other exciting brands we represent, those that may not be so well associated with us.

"The comedy shows attract an audience that is as diverse as our products and we see this as a fun way to both support The Marlowe but also to make the public more aware of our unique product offerings. I am sure we will find ways to also bring out the humour of all those old Volvo jokes whilst also promoting Lotus, Abarth, Alfa, Fiat and Chrysler Jeep.

"Our support of The Children's Festival week is a more traditional approach but again gives us the opportunity to expose our changing Volvo products to the young family audience who will begin to see how 'Swedish Metal' is ideal for their busy lives."

Marlowe Theatre Director Mark Everett welcomed the partnership, saying: "Lipscomb is the first company to work directly with The Marlowe Studio and we feel it is a perfect fit, as we can work together across the whole year to develop partnership opportunities and our audiences.

"Canterbury Children's Festival is now in its second year, and the partnership with Lipscomb means we can offer even more to families this time. We are proud to be able to align the festival to a brand so synonymous with family safety and quality."

Comedians such as Susan Calman and Robin Ince appear at The Marlowe Studio, which is also home to the monthly Marlowe Comedy Cabaret. Canterbury Children's Festival runs from Monday 26 to Saturday 31 May. For full details, contact the Box Office on 01227 787787 or go to marlowetheatre.com.
