THE FIRST musical to be performed in The Marlowe Studio opens this month.
Lights Up Productions will perform When Midnight Strikes, a contemporary witty musical.
With a score by Charles Miller packed with original show-stopping songs, When Midnight Strikes gives a sense of the brittle gaiety of a New Year's Eve party, with all the tensions so often seething behind closed doors.
The show is set around Jennifer West's intimate dinner party, which begins to fall apart upon the discovery that her husband has been having an affair.
As the night unfolds, hidden secrets and regrets of all the guests rise to the surface in a story of love, betrayal and heartbreak that lead into an explosive and life-altering evening.
The production will be directed by Canterbury Christ Church alumni, and professional director, Max Reynolds. With a string of West End productions to his name, he is excited to now produce the musical premiere at The Marlowe Studio.
"We are absolutely thrilled to be bringing When Midnight Strikes to The Marlowe Studio, especially as it is the first musical in the venue."
"This is a very witty, entertaining piece of musical theatre and put together with the intimacy of The Marlowe Studio will charm the audiences, and provoke both tears and laughter."
When Midnight Strikes is at The Marlowe Studio on Friday 30 and Saturday 31 August. Tickets cost £12 (concessions £10); to book, call the Box Office on 01227 787787 or go to marlowetheatre.com.
