Kids Week has beaten off stiff competition from some of London's biggest attractions such as The London Eye, Shakespeare's Globe and ZSL London Zoo to win the 2012 London Lifestyle Award for Best Cultural Attraction.

In 2012 the Kids Week 'kids go free to London theatre' deal, run by the Society of London Theatre (SOLT) and supported by Ticketmaster, sold 129,160 tickets for performances spanning 39 shows across the whole of August. This figure represents aremarkable 76% year-on-year increase compared to Kids Week's three-week run in 2011.

The Kids Week team is delighted to confirm that the annual initiative will return from 1-31 August 2013, following this year's specially extended month-long event as part of the London 2012 Festival.

Kids Week, now in its 15th year, encourages young people to experience the magic of live theatre. During Kids Week one child aged 16 or under can go free to participating shows when accompanied by an adult paying full price, and up to two extra children can go for half price. Children can also take part in a fantastic range of free activities and events on stage and backstage at many of the West End's iconic venues, with the cast and crew of their shows.

Emma De Souza, Head of Media and Marketing at SOLT, who created Kids Week and has overseen the initiative for its 15 years, said: "I am hugely proud that Kids Week has won the accolade of a London Lifestyle Award. It has been so rewarding to see Kids Week grow and develop, with many families returning year after year. None of this would be possible without the fantastic support of the West End shows, Kids Week bookers and my passionate and dedicated Kids Week team."

The London Lifestyle Awards were founded in 2010 to honour the lifestyle businesses in the capital whose work has made a real difference and a true contribution to London and the people living in the city. The 2012 London Lifestyle Awards saw 4,127 business and personalities across 18 categories in contention for one of the coveted awards, with 202 businesses making the final cut to battle it out for the trophies – securing a record-breaking 207,006 public votes in total.
