From 27th April to 12th May, Kings Cross Theatre (KXT) will host the world premiere of Manifesto Theatre Company's ambitious exploration of life in the 21st century, Youth and Destination.
Youth and Destination is an episodic dreamscape play that delves into the complexities and contradictions of being human in the modern world, told from the perspectives of younger generations. Featuring over sixty scenes, it is a gentle and adventurous look at things large and small, acute and obtuse, that we face in this century.
Stylistically inspired by the works of Carol Churchill and Roy Andersson, Youth and Destination aims to unpack the hypocrisies, fears, fantasies and divides that are the hallmarks of 21st century life. Beggars, lovers, friends and foes collide with poets, politicians and superstars to traverse the incommunicable confusion of today.
Director James Raggatt said the play has been designed to inspire conversation around our social and cultural climates, "This isn't another kitchen sink drama or a gritty slice-of-life play. It's a multifaceted exploration of us wading through the mess of modern society - the dreams that make up the world we must navigate every day".
Developed in partnership with KXT over three years, Youth and Destination is the first new work from a dynamic young team that includes writer/director James Raggatt (ATYP Spring Awakening), lighting designer Martin Kinnane (Spiegelworld), and set designer Kyle Jonsson (The Chapel Perilous).
