Direct from a sell-out tour at Edinburgh Fringe Festival now comes to the Rose Theatre in Kingston for one night only on Sunday 11 September.

In 2005 Nobel Laureate Harold Pinter was committed to reading a selection of his poems at a benefit for a women's shelter at St Stephen Walbrook Church in London, but illness had impaired his speaking voice. He asked Julian Sands to step in - on the condition of spending time together, rehearsing the works.

"Courageous, moving, and very funny. A wonderful evening, as Julian Sands tells the daunting tale of meeting Pinter and then reading his poems for him. A totally unexpected and delightful evening." Eric Idle
Sands continued to read Pinter's poems and prose, occasionally performing them at fundraising events. Now, under the direction of John Malkovich, Julian Sands will re-present the work as a celebration of Harold Pinter.

With reflections, commentaries and anecdotes drawn from their time together, Sands opens the door between Pinter's poetry and theatre. Sands says: "In these spare but complex works there is an extraordinary revelation of subjective feeling - at once poignant, profound and often hilarious"

"Julian Sands does wonders by reading Harold Pinter's poems as if they were plays. His approach is the very opposite of po-faced and reverent, and the result is a revelation." David Hare

Harold Pinter is the author of over 30 stage plays and more than 25 filmed screen plays, and many poems and essays. In 2005 he was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature and continued to write and act until his death in 2008.

Julian Sands is a British actor who has worked extensively both in Europe and America. Films include Room with a View, The Killing Fields, Boxing Helena, Leaving Las Vegas, Time Code, Impromptu, Gothic, Naked Lunch, and Oceans 13 among the better known. Television credits range from playing Jack Bower's nemisis in 24, Ghost Buster in Stephen King's in Rose Red, and Superman's dad in Smallville. Recent theatre includes the Geffen Playhouse production of The Female of the Species. Sands featured as the character "Mr. Sands" in Robert Altman's production of Pinter's The Room. He will next be seen in David Fincher's Girl with a Dragon Tattoo.

John Malkovich is an actor, producer, director and more recently, fashion designer. For his roles in Places in the Heart and In the Line of Fire, he received Academy Award nominations. He has also appeared in critically acclaimed films such as Empire of the Sun, The Killing Fields, Dangerous Liaisons, Con Air, Of Mice and Men, Being John Malkovich, Johnny English, and Red.
