Jordan Li-Smith Presents 'Songs I Wish I Had Written (And Other Guilty Pleasures)' at Bishopsgate Institute Image

Join award winning musical director and writer Jordan Li-Smith and a slew of special guests for an intimate evening of musical theatre and songs from the Great American Songbook. This concert will feature Myra the Steinway as part of the new Myra Jazz Trio. Expect to hear the classics, contemporary numbers with a jazzy twist and perhaps a preview of Jordan's newest songs.

Jordan Li-Smith trained at the Royal Academy Of Music as a Sir Elton John Scholar and is a proud alumnus of the National Youth Music Theatre as well as an Associate of the London College Of Music. He is currently writing a musical adaption of a major feature film in collaboration with writing partner Ray Rackham.

Jordan won the 2018 BroadwayWorld UK Award for Best Musical Direction for his work on the world premiere production of The Assassination Of Katie Hopkins', seeing off competition from 'Hamilton' and 'Fun Home'. The production itself also won the UK Theatre Award for Best Musical Production. Other notable MD/orchestrator credits include the acclaimed actor-musician revival of 'Ragtime' at Charing Cross Theatre - for which Jordan won the inaugural Off West End Award (Offies) for Best Musical Director - as well as 'The Bubbly Black Girl Sheds Her Chameleon Skin' (Theatre Royal Stratford East), 'Some Lovers' (The Other Palace) and 'Through The Mill' (Southwark Playhouse). In addition, Jordan has recently worked on the feature film 'Rocketman' as children's casting MD and musical assistant.

Jordan's affinity with Myra the Steinway began in 2016 when the pair first worked together on the Institute's production of 'Ragtime - The Musical'. It is believed, but not confirmed, that Jordan claimed: "she is my Myra", with competing claims to her favour being a hot topic of conversation between her many collaborators. Myra has a truly unique and nostalgic tone, which Jordan hopes will gloriously colour this special evening.

This new programme of events is curated by established and emerging musicians, inspired by their own personal experience of playing Myra the Steinway. Taking place in Bishopsgate Institute's Grade II* listed Great Hall, these concerts will provide an opportunity to relax and indulge in some sparkling events with world-class and innovative musicians.
