The Clifton Suspension Bridge provides the backdrop for the internationally-acclaimed Bristol playwright's latest work, called Suspension.
The venue's executive chairman, Dick Penny, asked Ms Johnson to write the play to launch the Old Vic's new writing programme, Script in Hand, aimed at developing new writing talent. Ms Johnson has been involved with Bristol Old Vic since 1988, when she won a playwriting competition.
